From Egyptian Secrets of Albertus Magnus, Joseph H. Peterson edition:
For Pulmonary Diseases, Consumption, Jaundice and Black Disease.
Purchase fifteen cents' worth of aniseed oil. An aged person may take twice per day, in the morning before breakfast, and evening before retiring to bed, twelve drops in a spoonful of brandy. If he feels improvement, continue thus till no more slime passes, then cease to take this drink. Many a person suffering from diseased lungs and jaundice have been cured thoroughly by this most excellent and simple remedy. For young men and females it is not of any use; except for barren women, in such a case it may be taken from three to four days, but during this time abstain from all excitement, otherwise it will be of no use.
