From Egyptian Secrets of Albertus Magnus, Joseph H. Peterson edition:
A good Pomatum for Sore Heads.
Take one-half of a pound of butter, such as was never watered, ginger, pepper, of each one-half an ounce, and one ounce of copper water, half an ounce of cloves, and some laurel leaves and stove soot.
All these articles pounded and mixed together, and boiled up in the butter until it is rendered completely. When it becomes cold grease the head therewith. It heals splendidly.
