From Egyptian Secrets of Albertus Magnus, Joseph H. Peterson edition:
For the Colic.
The disease is discovered thus: When a horse becomes sick and drops the head and often rises by starts, or when it prior to the days of labor pains draws the hips in, or lays down its head, etc., then these are signs of colic. Take teriac, saffron and good wine, mix well and let the horse drink it warm. Then ride it gently around and cover it well.
